Dear Backers,
I am writing to update you with a planned shipping schedule for your product - renamed PULMONIS (the Latin word for lung). The smart mask units are manufactured and in our warehouse in the UK.
We embarked on our Kickstarter project with a lot of ambition but little experience. The journey from prototype to manufacture ready product is a multi-year, resource intensive battle we had not fully prepared for.
We did not anticipate the mismatch between our company’s resources and the scale of our project’s needs in terms of time, expertise and funding. A larger company would have spent many years, millions of dollars and had teams of engineers bringing a product like this to life.
Despite this, we perceived. It has taken a lot of time and we apologies for the lack of communication around this. We have built a beautiful device that works well at monitoring breathing and can advise filter saturation percentage as well as how much pollution you have not breathed in from using your mask.
Forest fires in Australia and now the COVID-19 situation have taken up all capacity across the company for new projects. A product launch was planned for last year, then pushed back to early this year. Now we have been forced to push it back again.
Shipping and launching PULMONIS is a major undertaking that requires retraining the customer service team, having engineers update and maintain the app, redesigning the website and diverting manufacturing capability from masks to PULMONIS units.
At the moment billions of people are in desperate need of masks - in many cases having one or not could be life or death. We are doing everything we can to get masks to those that need them. We have substantially increased production capacity and are shipping to a number of schools, hospitals and high-risk groups to do what we can to help.
PULMONIS has the potential to be a market-changing device - but it is not what the world needs right now. As such we have made the difficult decision to push launch to whenever the virus is deemed to be under control and a new “normal” can be reestablished. We anticipate this could be as soon as June/July but may be more like August/September. Rest assured, all backers will receive their units as well as a new mask to go with them.
We have not communicated well and fully accept that was a poor way to treat you as early backers. We have come a long way in a relatively short time as a company, having grown and matured. We will be reaching out in due course to request address updates and coordinate shipping. Again, please accept our apologies for the continued delays.
We will be in touch.
Best wishes
